Black is a very difficult colour to achieve as it is not generally stable. Even today, it is highly prone of Piccoloshi’s island shirt. How fascinating that the kimonos dyed in the fashion can have a lifespan of two to three generations. Very interesting, especially the part about how the red dye from the tree bark reacts with the iron in the mud to turn the material black. What an amazing process.
